Baby shampoo on adults?

i know what they say about baby shampoo and its ph blah blah. but i used to use it, and it made my hair incredibly soft and manageable. when i read about it drying out hair i went and got myself some expensive salon shampoo and conditioner (rusk) which worked well at first, but has just been drying the heck out of my hair these days. even if wait three or 4 days in between its still getting really dry...im planning on getting myself some more johnsons baby shampoo and using my rusk conditioner. does anyone have experience using baby shampoo on their hair for any length of time? does it really ruin your hair??Baby shampoo on adults?
I have long hair and have used Johnsons for 28 years and guess what? It is still there looking good and is soft and shinny. Your hair is always growing so the damaged hair is replaced so try it nothing learned is nothing gained.Baby shampoo on adults?
my daughter was born with a full head of hair, and now at 18 months has sholder length hair, and at first johnson and johnsons was great...her hair was greasy as a baby, but when it started to dry out i had to begin conditioning it and using the lorel with shampoo and conditioner, her hair seems way less dry. the johnsons and johnsons has formaldyhyde in it.. that is why people say that
all i know is that its not good for color treated hair. I dont use it and it probably wouldnt work well for me i have a lot of hair and i always need to use a lot of cond. I love this product called loma its more natural hair care products and they smell great. i think that if its making ur hair feel soft then use it as long as ur not coloring ur hair because it will just fade the color faster.
i dont think it really ruins your hair, how can it if its meant to be for babies? its just weaker than normal shampoo as its for babies, it doesnt do any real serious damage, but it probably depends on what type of hair people have, everyones different.
I have used it off and on through the years. No complaints for short term use. I would make sure that you do a protein pak or deep conditioning about once a week or at least a couple of times a month. Just based on my experience. Good luck!
I use it a lot and my hair is fine.

I get the tear free one only because it reminds me of childhood and my hair is soft and manageable
In my opinion it is more secure than others because it is meant for more delicate skins and the industry usually takes more precautions for babies.
Every once in a while it's okay, but I used it for a few days in a row once and it was horrible. My hair got so dry!
try using it every other day and using a moisturizer in between.
Baby shampoo is gentle and adults are fine to use it.
It dosent ruin yuor hair, it makes it way softer and healthy! If anything it should be good for you!
No! Not at all. I use baby shampoo and it works so well my hair is always soft and shiny. Good luck

August23Is Sulfate-Free Baby Shampoo Good For Adult Hair?

Shiraune Says: In viewing your site I have become an instant fan. I appreciate the unbiased information you provide here. My question is: are baby shampoos sufficient enough to clean adult hair? I know they are SLS free and have been looking for this type of shampoo to minimize the drying effect from SLS poos.

The Left Brain Responds:

Thanks for the kind words about the blog. I always try to provide helpful, unbiased information when answering your questions. And your question in particular is a good one because there is a lot of misinformation out there about Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and shampoo.

Is SLS bad?

First of all, don’t believe all the urban legends about SLS causing cancer or being bad for you because it’s used in garage cleaners. We’ve blogged about SLS before and pointed out that these myths have been debunked. Most people can use Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate shampoos without any problem whatsoever.

BUT, some people do find that SLS can dry out their scalp. Those people should consider SLS’s milder cousin SLES (short for Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulfate) or they should consider using sulfate-free shampoos.

Are baby shampoos good cleansers?

Baby shampoos are good examples of sulfate-free formulas. Instead of SLS they contain materials known as amphoteric surfactants that are less drying to skin and milder to the eye. (Hence the “no more tears” claim of many baby shampoos.

The downside to these types of formulations is that they don’t clean as well as the stronger detergent systems. While SLS is a VERY good cleansing agent that can remove sweat, dirt, styling product residue and scalp oils, baby shampoo formulas are not so effective.

Why not baby yourself?

Is this a problem? It depends. If you’re using a ton of styling product you might have to shampoo your hair multiple times with baby shampoo to get it as clean as an SLS-based product. That’s not such a bad trade off if your scalp is really dried out. I recommend trying baby shampoo for a week or two to see if you like the effect. If not, you can always switch back.
