I rescued some kittys and they have ear mites. There fur is greedy and dirty and all the stores are closed and I'm wondering if baby shampoo would be okay. It says it's gentil on eyes and is made for new borns skinBaby shampoo on my kittys?
It is usually best to keep with ANIMAL SAFE products which are specially made for use with cats or dogs. It is best to WAIT until the stores are OPEN again to do this. If you feel you must do SOMETHING in the interim, then wash with plain warm water for now. This problem can wait until the stores open again!
Me... kittyslave23... I know my place.Baby shampoo on my kittys?
YES... Ive been doing ';bottle baby rescue'; for years. It's gentle on their skin and eyes. It also kills the fleas. I just hold it in my hand under warm running water and rub him all over then add soap and continue rubbing. Eventually they get exhausted struggling and go limp at all the rubbing. Wash him and rinse then wash again.
Now cuddle them in a towel and rub gently again.
It's gentle enough to use again the next night too until he's totally clean.
Most of the kittens I get are only a few days or a week old. Too young to clean themselves. When the go to the bathroom mommies not there so I have to run warm water over their lower halves to clean them. They are so use to water when I raise them that when they do get adopted the new owners have a hard time keeping them out of the shower. One lady told me every time her two hear the shower come on they rush in to watch and even jump in with her just to feel the water on their backs. And these 2 were/are long haired maine coons. So yes baby shampoo is best.As for the ear mites clean the black chunks out with your finger ans a lot of q-tips. To make sure they stay gone get the medicine from the vet. You can put the drops in the ears and rub it all around good. This will kill the little buggers and you kitty will be VERY grateful..good luck
my mom uses baby shampoo on our cats and it's perfectly fine. For the ear mites though its best to take them to a vet for that and not try to handle it yourself. You can wipe out their ears with a damp paper towel, but to get rid of ear mites entirely the vet gives you a fluid to put in their ears twice a day. (our dog had ear mites and this is what they did; i'm assuming it is somewhat the same for cats)
my vet told me that often times baby shampoo is better than pet shampoo. As long as it's tear free then it should be fine. However, your not really supposed to bathe very young animals and definitely don't get water directly in their ears (wiping them out is fine) Good luck with your new babies. :)
