My aunt (works at salon) is going to be stripping my hair next week. I have soft black hair (dyed) but have dark brown grow out (natural hair color). Im going back to dark brown
Sadly, my hair is kinda already damaged from heat products such as my straightener.
I heard that baby shampoo can strip ur hair (remove the color) in a safer way than chemical stripping. Is this true??Baby shampoo to strip hair?
Shampoo is a gentle cleanser- it wouldn't be stripping.
Before you try the stripping, try color oops instead- I've stripped my hair in the past, but ti damaged it beyond recognition.
A few months back, i wanted to try to dye my hair a lighter shade- (impossible to do- you can't lighten dyed hair with hair dye); but I did find this stuff called color oops. It works best within 48 hours of dying, but can be used anytime after- I used it a year after dying it last; and it did a fairly decent job.
It works by shrinking the color molecules- you apply it like a home dye; leave it on for a bit, then rinse it out- the most important thing to do is to rinse for a very long time- it says at least 10 minutes, but go longer- if you don't, then the color molecules won't come out.
I have really long hair- to my waist- so I had to use 2 boxes; and I bought the extra strength one; the initial results were very very good; but it did get a few shades darker by the end of the week- but even so, it made a huge difference.
The other great thing about it is, it's not at all damaging to your hair- in fact, mine felt really soft after. It's gentle enough that you can dye right after using; I actually bought a second set of the color oops the next day, and re-did it, to lighten it some more- I had some results, but not as strong as I did the first time.
If you aren't planning to go blonde, I would give this a shot- when I used it, I had black hair from dying, and about 6 inches of roots- it worked well enough to make the dyed part blend in with my roots.
You can always go and strip it later if you aren't happy with the results, but it's so bad for your hair, you should consider this first. When I stripped mine, I did it to get all the red out; and even once I did that, it was an awful end resullt- then there's the toner, and the new dye to apply- all of which contribute to the damage; so expect to have some major trim jobs if you do go through with the stripping.
Color oops also has a satifaction guaruntee, so you can get your money back if it doesn't work; but I had good results. They're also really helpful, if you call the number on the box. It's about ten bucks a box; available almost anywhere, and remember to go with extra strength if you're hair is very dark, and it's been awhile from the intial dye job.
If you have hair p-ast your shoulders, I'd buy two boxes; one might not be enough to cover all your hair.
Good luck!Baby shampoo to strip hair?
i don't think it's true it didn't work on me. i've never heard of this before. i've dyed my hair monthly since i was fourteen pretty much. when i'm running low on shampoo i use my daughters johnson and johnson and i still have my hair color.
A hairdresser told me awhile back that Dove dishwashing liquid removes haircolor and is gentle at the same time. The actual dishwashing liquid. But I would check at Sally Beauty Supply or some place more reliable than us! Good luck.
No way is better than a professional salon treatment. Baby shampoo is made for a baby or a person with fine hair that is not colored.
Would it hurt to just try?
no it does not work
